The Archons of Chicago. Chicago Architecture Biennale Lakefront Kiosk Competition Proposal.

Architecture is everywhere. Chicago is architecture. Chicago is the kiosk.

We propose that, during the Chicago Architecture Biennale and in the winter, the Lakefront Kiosk will not exist. Instead, a series of freestanding arches, archetypical forms, will be distributed in the public spaces of the city. The arches, inspired by Chicago heritage buildings and by the Sullivan’s Stock Exchange portal currently located by the Art Institute, will underline the features of the architecture of Chicago. Each arch will provide a different function to citizens. After the Biennale, the arches will be assembled to host commercial services, to then separate and migrate again throughout the city. This proposal want to synthetize architecture to its essential role, form and the satisfaction of basic needs, while proposing that the city as a whole is the site where civic life is contained.
